[Medieval miniature illuminated manuscript on vellum]
Exceptional medieval minuscule manuscript, one of the smallest known of the Middle Ages, and perhaps the smallest known today compared to the other minuscule manuscripts that have been catalogued so far; this kind of minuscule manuscripts, which were often held in reliquiaries, have been largely destroyed and are thus of extreme rarity today. This survival offers a unique chance to examine an extraordinarily rare side of manuscript production of the Middle Ages.

38 x 28 mm. 158 leaves gathered in quires of 12 throughout, written in brown ink in a gothic liturgical hand, 9-10 lines, some small illuminated initials in red and blue on burnished golden grounds, line fillers of the same type, containing 8 large miniatures, full page for the most part (ca. 20 x 15 mm) and a bit rubbed throughout, lacks one miniature and text at the beginning of Penitential Psalms (before fol. 119). Fifteen century binding, brown calf over wooden boards, doubly sewn headbands in a 15th century technique, one metal clasp which could have been made in the 17th century, skin of spine partly detached and worn. For a manuscript this size, intended for personal use, the condition is overall very good for the text and parchment, the miniatures partly worn and rubbed.
